Fairfield BAJA SAE Team

This is the team who competed in June 2022 at Rochester, NY in the SAE BAJA Collegiate Design Series against over 100 colleges and universities worldwide!

WHAT IS BAJA?

The Baja SAE® competition sponsored by SAE International® challenges engineering students to design and build an offroad vehicle that will survive the severe punishment of rough terrain and in some competitions, water. As in real work situations, these future engineers work together as a team to discover and resolve technical challenges in design, testing, manufacturing, and business issues. The most rugged of all the competitions, Baja SAE also gives students the first-hand challenge of pursuing their passion while managing real-life demands and priorities. Each team aims to design and build a prototype of an all-weather, rugged, single-seat, off-road recreational vehicle intended for sale to the nonprofessional weekend off-road enthusiast.

Fairfield Baja SAE Logo

After many design iterations, we decided to come up with the name "Fairfield Offroad Racing" for more appeal from others. The final logo design was created as a team and generated by George Barlow. For more logo designs check out the Logos tab below.

How did we do in Rochester?

Acceleration

We placed 54th out of 75 teams. Our best time was 4.902 seconds. In Rochester, NY the ground was bumpy and made of dirt compared to last year which was flat pavement. In Louisville, KY we placed 46th out of 82 teams for a time of 4.618 seconds.

Sled Pull

This event was new this year for our team and we placed 70th out of 72 teams. We only managed to pull the sled 0.50 inches. Last year we had the Hill Climb event which we got 40th out of 82 teams and climbed 47.3 feet.

Manuverability

We placed 54th out of 88 teams and only hit 14 cones and completed the entire course! Compared to last year in Louisville, KY we placed 59th out of 81 teams and we weren't able to finish the course.

Suspension & Traction

We placed 41st out of 70 teams and went through 6 obstacles! Compared to Louisville, KY we only got through 1 obstacle until we hit a cone. Last year we placed 40th out of 82 teams.

Endurance Race

We placed 54th out of 88 teams and managed to get 19 laps! Our sprocket keyway slipped loose twice and our brake light wire broke. Compared to last year in Louisville, KY we only had 8 laps due to a snapped throttle cable.
